Untangle Home
My Signature One-Year Recovery & Transformation Program
You’ve Done the Hard Work. Now Comes the Human Work.
You’ve moved through treatment, trauma, or a profound life disruption. You’ve gained insight, strength, and self-awareness.
But now comes the hardest part: returning to the place where everything first tangled — home.
That first year back — in your rooms, relationships, and routines — is where most people feel the ground drop out from under them. Not because treatment failed, but because home is where the old circuitry still lives: the triggers, habits, overwhelm, and emotional patterns that once kept you surviving.
Hi, I’m Angela McKinney.
I help people embody all aspects of home after treatment or crisis.
The Untangle Home Program turns your living space into a structure of safety, rhythm, and real-world recovery — so home stops being a trigger and becomes a foundation. A place that can finally hold the life you’re building.
Together, we rebuild your life one phase at a time: your habits, your relationships, your identity.
Because real transformation doesn’t happen in a controlled environment — it emerges where you live, where your thoughts linger, and where your life takes shape.
Space is limited. Time is valuable. Your next chapter deserves intention.

Additional Testimonials
"The first 90 days out of rehab were precarious — I felt like an egg without a shell. Angela’s guidance transformed my experience: she integrated me into a supportive community and provided the foundation I needed for lasting sobriety, career success, and personal growth. Nearly five years later, I continue to thrive in ways I never imagined."
— Steve B., Advertising Executive
"I needed more than another rehab — I needed a roadmap for living differently. My family needed one too. Angela’s program gave me the practical tools I’d been missing: real self-care, emotional regulation, and the structure to rebuild my life from the inside out. Her family coaching transformed our entire system — creating clarity, boundaries, and a foundation where we could all grow. I can’t believe I am operating and functioning as the person I am today. Angela guided me through every step.”

How It Works:
The Four Phases & Seasons of Recovery
Untangle Home is more than a recovery program — it’s a structured, immersive journey through the first year of real-life recovery. Using the metaphor of the seasons, the program guides clients from Winter (Foundations) through Spring (Skill-Building), Summer (Integration), and Fall (Self-Leadership & Thriving). Each phase builds on the last, offering inner mastery and real-world results, while adapting to each client’s pace, needs, and wellness.
Phase 1: Foundations (Months 1–3) — Winter: Landing & Grounding
After inpatient treatment or a crisis, many clients emerge from a kind of emotional hibernation. Phase 1 focuses on creating a stabilizing floor of okayness that allows the system to thaw, feelings to surface safely, and the nervous system to orient toward a new way of living. This phase lays the groundwork: structural support, predictable routines, and foundational practices that help regulate grounding so new life can take root.
Key Areas
Skills — embodied practices that cultivate safety, presence, and sensory somatic aliveness
Continued care — collaborate with clinical teams, family, and support systems for alignment
Crisis intervention plan — identify personal warning signs and outline actionable steps
Healthy rhythms — stabilize sleep, nutrition, movement, hygiene, and daily self-care
Feelings- a system to process negative emotions, as well as learning to create positive emotions
Room-by-room untangles — transform physical and emotional clutter into grounded clarity
Phase 2: Skill-Building (Months 4–6) — Spring: Variety & Expression
As the stability of Phase 1 takes hold, clients begin to attune to their essential needs in healthy ways. This is the phase of experimenting with new forms of expression, exploring identity, and building internal resources to create greater connectivity. Phase 2 is about discovering the “sweet spots” of growth — not too much, not too little — just enough challenge, connection, and variety to strengthen resilience without overwhelm.
Key Areas:
Boundaries and relationships — develop relational skills to set boundaries and show up in new ways
Healthy challenges — choose challenges that stretch you just enough to build confidence and resilience
Avoidant cycles — untangle emotional patterns and internal stories that reinforce avoidance and stuckness
Emotional fluency — strengthen your ability to tolerate a full range of emotions, and understand how they drive choices and behavior.
Oppositional forces — work with the internal rhythms that pull you toward overactivation or shutdown
Commitment — cultivate the confidence to follow through despite uncertainty
Essential needs — source certainty, variety, love, and significance in healthy ways
Identity development — clarify how challenges shape the person you are becoming and who you want to be
Resilience — bridge protective habits with new capabilities to be seen and supported
Phase 3: Integration (Months 7–9) — Summer: Experimentation & Confidence
Phase 3 is about confidence-building through action. Clients begin to “test the waters”—both at home and in the world—by experimenting with new ways of engaging. This phase emphasizes discernment, decision-making, and healthy risk-taking. Small experiments—reorganizing a room, exploring money differently, or addressing relational patterns—become playgrounds for skill-building and clarity—what works, what doesn’t, and what feels meaningfully aligned.
Key Areas:
Life on Life’s Terms — navigate triggers, social dynamics, and responsibilities with confidence
Nervous System Regulation — maintain balance between overactivation and shutdown, expanding tolerance for stress and joy
Internal Parts Work — distinguish between fears to release and areas ready for growth
Repair & Strengthen Relationships — rebuild trust, enhance communication, and deepen connection
Emotional Resilience — respond to challenges with steadiness, compassion, and courage
Savoring & Play — engage creatively with gratitude, intimacy, and meaningful experiences
Discernment & Decision-Making — build confidence in choosing healthy risks and opportunities for growth
Lead Yourself Into New Experiences — step forward into situations that once felt threatening or impossible
Phase 4: Self-Leadership (Months 10–12) — Fall: Harvest & Thriving
This phase is about aligning action with values, consolidating gains, and designing a life that is both meaningful and sustainable. Clients reap the benefits of consistent practice and integration, stepping fully into self-leadership, purpose, and intentional living. Phase 4 celebrates what has been cultivated throughout the year while preparing for ongoing growth beyond the program.
Key Areas:
Embody Recovery with Confidence — show up fully in life without fear, guilt, or hesitation
Redefine “More” — expand love, creativity, connection, and contribution rather than filling emptiness
Untangle Shame — address money, sex, and under-being states, aligning choices with integrity and self-respect
Legacy & Life Design — create sustainable plans across family, work, relationships, and community
Capacity for Joy, Purpose & Fulfillment — cultivate richness, meaning, and connectedness
Celebrate Growth & Prepare for Ongoing Evolution — integrate lessons, solidify practices, and step confidently into life beyond the program
Each phase builds on the last, giving clients both the inner mastery and real-world skills to sustain lasting recovery and create a life of clarity, purpose, and fulfillment.
What Is Untangling?
The Untangle Method™ is a 3-step parts-based framework that integrates trauma science, neurobiology, and creative, embodied practices to produce real, lasting change. It’s woven throughout The Home Program — shaping your environment, your daily rhythms, and your inner emotional landscape.
We now understand that trauma resolution requires two essential capacities: presence and the ability to use imagination in healthy, regulated ways. Many people remain trapped in the “horrors” of the past, reenacting survival responses that drain creativity, agency, and connection. I created the Untangle Method™ to interrupt this cycle. Through untangling, clients learn how to recognize unconscious reenactments, return to the present moment, and use imagination purposefully — rewriting themselves into new patterns, possibilities, and identity.
Every untangle begins with something simple — a shelf, a habit, a belief — and unfolds into a powerful reclamation of energy, clarity, and purpose. This practice awakens the innate human capacity to heal, reorganize, and thrive. It shows that freedom and flow were never gone — they were simply tangled.
Small Untangles, Big Change
Untangling the Myth of ‘Not Enough’
"After decades of therapy, 12-step programs, and spiritual work, I finally experienced a breakthrough I didn’t know was possible. While untangling a cluttered mudroom, I uncovered a core belief I’d carried my whole life — that I had to stay childlike to be valuable and lovable. No wonder I lived in chronic helplessness and crisis; growing up and becoming successful felt like a threat. That single insight changed everything. I went from under-earning and barely surviving to thriving in every area of my life."
— Claire M., Designer
Untangling Money Shame
"As a clinical therapist, I was embarrassed to be so trapped in a ‘money martyr’ story, bound by family dynamics. Angela helped me untangle this with clarity and compassion. Within nine months, I tripled my income, reclaimed my autonomy, and stopped defaulting to numbing behaviors. Forever grateful.”
— Nancy G., Therapist
Untangling Hidden Creativity
“I untangled a single kitchen shelf and found my old creative writing hidden behind a photo of my sister. That moment cracked something open inside me — the belief that I didn’t deserve a creative life and “should suffer.” Since then, I’ve written two books and reclaimed a part of me I thought I had lost forever.”
— Barbara T., Writer
Untangling Fear & Self-Expression
“I used to drop my head and disappear whenever I spoke in public- I was terrified of being seen. Angela helped me untangle my fear, and bit by bit, I found confidence — even joy — in speaking. Now, I stand on stages before thousands. It’s transformed my career and how I see myself.”
— Karen T., Executive Coach
Untangling Trauma & Reclaiming Purpose
“I came into this work feeling heavy and stiff, completely tangled in myself. Through Angela’s Untangle Method™, I learned to stop fighting those parts and meet them with compassion. I am no longer abusing substances, I’ve left an unhealthy marriage, and I’m now I returned to graduate school to finish my clinical degree. I feel alive with purpose.”
— Samara T., Student
Untangling Love & Sex Addiction
“After getting sober, I hit bottom in an abusive marriage. Angela helped me untangle the difference between love and sex addiction, stand in my own power, and finally leave. Her compassion created the safety I needed to heal.”
— Mary K., Managing Director
Untangling Work Addiction Cycles
“I was trapped in overwork — resentful and losing everything. Angela helped me untangle my relationship with time. Slowing down was terrifying— it pulled up the chaos of my childhood. But as I stayed with the work, something shifted. I stopped martyring myself and began living in choice. Now I have peace, presence, and space for what I truly love.”
— Susan P., Hollywood Executive
Why I Built It
I’m Angela McKinney, and for more than 20 years, I’ve helped people — including myself — untangle from addiction, trauma, and chaos to build lives that feel honest, meaningful, and whole. I built this work because I’ve lived the quiet ache of inner homelessness — and I learned how to come home to myself. Now I help others do the same. Neuroscientist Marc Lewis, author of Memoirs of an Addicted Brain, described my Untangle Method™ as “a creative new direction in recovery” — a reflection of the work’s depth, innovation, and humanity.
Most people struggling with the effects of early trauma don’t even know it. These invisible “crisis states” quietly shape how we think, feel, and relate to others — keeping us trapped in cycles of survival rather than growth. I built The Untangle Method™ to change that. Through curious explorations and play within your HOME, it helps people locate these hidden knots, bring them into awareness, and transform them into clarity, confidence, and self-leadership. It turns awareness into vision, and vision into tangible, embodied change
I created The Untangle Home Program to fill a critical gap in recovery — the space between insight and integration. When we leave treatment or move through major life transitions, the familiar pull of old patterns can be strong. The Home Program provides structure, tools, and compassionate guidance for navigating that transition. It’s a one-year framework designed to help you not only stay sober, but build a new rhythm of living — grounded, purposeful, and free.
